Recovering of password can be very easy in many of the cases.

We will discuss some of the easiest and trickiest ways to solve the lost password problem of Windows.

It can be that you have lost the password and there are other user accounts available on the same system. Log on to Windows by help of any of the accounts that has administrator rights. Open the User Accounts information option. To open the user accounts, click "Run" in the Start menu. Type "control userpassword" and click OK. You can reset the password in the User Accounts dialog box. Restart the system to logon through your own account and password.

If you don't have access to any other account you can use the boot disk option. You can access the data by booting the system through a CD or any other operating system. If you use this method, your personal settings and saved bookmarks, internet cache, etc. files will not be available.

If you are not able to perform the above methods, there is a tricky method that you can try in Windows NT or 2000. Boot your system by any other operating system or bootable CD. Visit system32 folder and copy "cmd.exe" in it from "C:\Windows" folder. Rename "logon.scr" file in system32 to temp and copied "cmd.exe" to "logon.scr" file. After doing the changes restart your system. When the command prompt appears, run the command "net user [username] [password]". The password becomes the new password for the username. This new password will become the password of account username. Restart your system and logon with the new password. Once you have logged on undo the changes that you have made in system32 folder.
